Moving out? Plan carpet cleaning after the furniture
On moving day, carpet cleaning is easy to squeeze into the wrong gap. Movers may still be crossing the rooms, stains may be hidden and the keys may be due back that afternoon. Start with the handover time and work backward so the appointment has room to work.

Read the carpet-related instructions and ask the owner or manager about anything unclear. List which rooms need cleaning and whether closets, stairs or landings are included. If a receipt is required, ask about it when requesting the quote.
A cleaning appointment cannot guarantee the return of a deposit. Wear, damage and the rest of the property’s condition are separate matters between you and the people handling the handover.
Photograph after large items are out
Empty rooms show the accessible area and reveal marks that were under beds or sofas. Take a full view of each room and a closer photo of the problem areas. Give approximate dimensions and identify stairs separately rather than including them in a general room count.
If furniture must remain, explain exactly what stays. Ask who will move it, whether it can be moved at all and which areas are excluded if it stays in place.
Tell the history without guessing
Say what caused a mark if you know and what products have been tried. Include pet accidents, recurring odors and any areas that were repeatedly wet. Photograph worn paths, loose carpet or damage as well, while keeping them separate from a stain-removal request.
Cleaning may improve soiling without changing faded fibers or permanent discoloration. Discuss the expected result before treating every visible difference as something that can be cleaned away.
Leave space between cleaning and key return
Tell us when the movers finish and when the property must be locked. Ask about drying and access afterward. Avoid scheduling another dusty job or a furniture delivery through freshly cleaned rooms. A late appointment immediately before an inspection may leave too little time for normal use.
For a condo, confirm elevator reservations and vendor hours. For a vacant house, arrange who opens the door, who checks the work and who secures the property according to the drying guidance.
Keep a simple record of the agreed scope
Save the estimate and take your own before-and-after photos for the handover. If a newly exposed room or stain changes the job, agree on any revision before the work proceeds. Send the same information to the person who will meet the cleaner so there is one set of instructions.
- Rooms, closets, stairs and approximate sizes.
- Photos taken after furniture removal, or a list of what remains.
- Mover finish time, access contact and handover deadline.
- Any receipt requirements and known stains, odor or damage.
